Art Here and Now (AHAN): Studio Forum

Art Here and Now (AHAN): Studio Forum is a collectors’ group that grants members a unique way to engage with curators and artists, culminating in annual acquisitions by emerging Los Angeles–based artists. AHAN members join LACMA curators in a weekend of artist studio visits, followed by a forum focused on in-depth conversation about potential acquisitions. Ultimately, works are chosen for LACMA’s permanent collection, adding to the AHAN legacy. Members also enjoy an annual celebration with the artists they have brought into the collection, and studio visits with prior artists to learn how their practice has evolved.

AHAN is led by Rita Gonzalez, curator and acting head of Contemporary Art, and Christine Y. Kim, associate curator of Contemporary Art. Annual dues directly support AHAN acquisitions.

Over the past four decades, AHAN has had a prestigious track record of identifying promising Los Angeles artists early in their careers. Previous acquisitions through AHAN (and its predecessor, the Young Talent Award) have included works by Mark Bradford, Chris Burden, Aaron Curry, Llyn Foulkes, Friedrich Kunath, Rubén Ortiz-Torres, Lara Schnitger, and Pae White, among many other outstanding artists. Learn more about recent acquisitions: 2013, 20142015, 2016 and 2017.

Members additionally receive all of the benefits of Modern and Contemporary Art Council (MCAC) membership, which hosts exclusive programs and events throughout the year, including curator-led tours, gallery and studio visits, and other museum events.
