Can art be something to hear as well as see?

Why do you think Kersels thought this artwork would be fun for kids?

I see it as a place where stories can be created anew or old stories given new life.—Martin Kersels

How can sound tell a story?

Close your eyes and imaging hearing the sound of footsteps getting closer, a door opening, then slamming shut and footsteps running away. Even if you don't see what is happening, sounds can help you imagine the scene. Martin Kersels is interested in the role sound plays in telling tales and thought the best way to get kids thinking about this would be to give them the chance to tell stories with sound. So he created the Sound Garden, a room filled with dozens of sound-making sculptures that sound just a cool as they look!
