Can a lounge be a work of art?

Why do you think Isermann wanted his artwork to cover the walls?

Jim Isermann loves patterns.

For Made in California NOW,  Jim Isermann designed a custom pattern that covers the entry hallway of the MIC Now exhibition and the interior of a lounge in the gallery. Even the windows in the hallway are part of Jim's design. Inside the lounge, you'll find benches holding square and round pillows -- the same sizes and shapes as those in the pattern on the walls. Isermann hopes visitors will rearrange the pillows to create patterns! And listen for the music Isermann chose for the lounge: it is a song, Plock, that uses repeating musical patterns.
