Spotting the Shapes

Calame
Take another look at the image. Every one of the colored shapes is a precise tracing of a stain found at a particular spot on a city sidewalk. You probably walk right over stains like these every day, but artist Ingrid Calame notices them and reproduces them life-size in her paintings. So even though the painting looks very abstract, each of the shapes in the composition is an accurate record of something real.
