Canaletto
Take another look at Piazza San Marco Looking South and West. Saint Mark's Square was then, and still is, a favorite tourist destination. Some of Venice's best-known buildings surround the square, including the tall bell tower you see on the left and Saint Mark's Basilica, the corner of which is just visible on the far left edge of the canvas.

Tourists who visited Venice in the 1700s loved Canaletto's paintings of the city and bought them as beautiful—and expensive—souvenirs of their travels. When you go on vacation, do you bring back souvenirs? [Roll your mouse over the slides below!]
