Afro-Peruvian Jazz Project combines música criolla, Afro-Peruvian music, and jazz influences. Founder and director, Handark Lozano, a native of Peru, started the project in 2012, working with Los Angeles's finest musicians in the genre. The sound offers a different perspective on music from Peru that incorporates timbales, vals, conga, festejo, and landó. APJP has performed at local jazz stages, venues in Peru, and international festivals.
