Angel City Jazz Festival Featuring the Phil Ranelin Sextet

The 2012 Angel City Jazz Festival returns to Jazz at LACMA with a special double bill. The evening begins with the winners of the second annual Angel City Jazz Young Artist Competition, followed by legendary trombonist Phil Ranelin. Ranelin is loved and respected around the globe as a master trombonist of the J.J. Johnson tradition, former Freddie Hubbard sideman, and as co-founder of Detroit’s famed Tribe Records. He has collaborated with greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Art Pepper, Teddy Edwards, Gerald Wilson, and Sarah Vaughan.
