One of the most pioneering artists of the last century, Robert Rauschenberg produced a diverse body of work characterized by experimentation, the use of varied mediums and methods, and cross-cultural exchange. In this lecture, Katia Zavistovski, assistant curator of Modern Art, will introduce Rauschenberg's work, with a focus on his monumental The 1/4 Mile or 2 Furlong Piece (1981–98). Created over 17 years, The 1/4 Mile is composed of 190 panels that, combined, measure approximately one quarter mile in length. The 1/4 Mile constitutes a self-contained retrospective of Rauschenberg's oeuvre, and LACMA's presentation is the first time the piece will be exhibited in its entirety.

Members are invited to visit the exhibition after the lecture.

Invitations delivered via e-mail. Please contact with any questions.
