Dr. No
In 1962, this action-adventure film single handedly changed the course of cinema: The hero taking aim and firing squarely at his target—the audience—and screen is bathed in red. Dr. No features an opening credits sequence that has nothing to do with the movie and a protagonist (back then, no one called him a hero) whose aplomb and licentiousness are clearly a coping mechanism for the bloody demands of his work. Sean Connery emerged as a star, and his worldwide stalking of the villainous SPECTRE member Dr. No (Joseph Wiseman) closed the door on the 1950s in film culture.
