Scr: Richard Maibaum; dir: Peter Hunt; w/ George Lazenby, Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas, Gabriele Ferzetti, Lois Maxwell, Desmond Llewelyn, Bernard Lee.

One of the most pleasurable Bond films, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was directed by Peter Hunt, who started work on the series as an editor. Pauline Kael wrote of it, “In some ways, it’s the most dazzling in the series up to this time.” In her first movie role, Diana Rigg (best known as the lethal superspy Mrs. Peel from the low-fi British television series The Avengers) gave the film some snap as Bond’s first—and to date, only—wife. Telly Savalas takes on the role of Blofeld, and George Lazenby stars in his only outing as James Bond.
