Introduced by writer Russell Gewirtz
Lee’s most commercially successful film to date, Inside Man is a twisty heist thriller in the vein of '70s classics such as The Taking of Pelham One Two Three and Dog Day Afternoon. When a mysterious criminal and his masked team take the customers and staff of a Manhattan bank hostage, detective Keith Frazier (Denzel Washington, working with Lee for the fourth time), a New York hostage negotiator, is tasked to mediate a tense situation. Production designer Wynn Thomas, Lee's frequent collaborator, created authentic sets that allowed the director to take full advantage of first-time screenwriter Russell Gewirtz’s witty script in this stylish production that keeps the audience guessing at every turn.
