Mungo Thomson with Piero Golia at Art Catalogues
To celebrate the publication of Font Study (TIME), a limited edition artwork by Mungo Thomson produced by LACMA, Mungo and fellow artist Piero Golia will talk about perceptual double-takes, the extreme gesture, and blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction. Font Study (TIME), is a limited edition of 50, signed and numbered, and bound and embossed in the style of library periodicals. This artist book collects Thomson’s drawings of the TIME magazine logo as it has evolved over the years, from the earliest sample in 1922 to the present day, in what the artist has termed “a phenomenological font study.” The result is a slow-motion flip-book that is a study of time, mass culture, graphic design, the book, and the nature of reading. Piero Golia: Desert Interviews Or How To Jump Off The Roof And Not Hit The Ground, edited by Lisa Mark, with texts by John Armleder, Andrew Berardini, Pierre Huyghe, Richard Jackson, Emilie Renard, and Eric Wesley, explores the Mountain School of Arts in Los Angeles, which in the spirit of Fluxus, follows a trajectory based on the joys of instantaneous action.
