Muse Concert Series: Saint Motel and The Silent Comedy

Thursday, July 7, 2011 | 8 pm

Muse—LACMA’s premier membership group for art enthusiasts in their 20s, 30s, and 40s—announces the first installment in a new concert series. The concerts further expand Muse’s goal of celebrating art in all its forms while providing a platform for emerging artists. Each concert will compound music with after-hours access to exhibitions, visual programming, and a limited-edition print by a local artist.

Hosted by The Roxy Theater, the inaugural show considers the Los Angeles independent rock scene. In conjunction with the LACMA exhibition showcasing Burbank’s own cinematic rock star Tim Burton, local bands Saint Motel and The Silent Comedy take the stage in front of Chris Burden’s Urban Light. Saint Motel (left) delivers its explosive brand of hard-pop that lends to live shows marked by effusive energy and exciting visual soundscapes that blend the sonic with the artful.

From playing folk instruments in the foothills of the Himalayas to drawing crowds around pianos at Spanish shopping malls, the Zimmerman Brothers brought an eclectic past to the formation of The Silent Comedy, (right) yielding a live show that can only be classified as an experience. The Silent Comedy will be joined by live painter Mike Maxwell.

The excitement continues beyond the bands as visual artists create a dazzling display to complement the music and LACMA’s Stark Bar slings the finest in cocktails. Select guests will also enjoy exclusive after-hours access to the Tim Burton exhibition plus a limited-edition print by local artist Patrick Haemmerlein, designed to commemorate the evening.
