In celebration of Philip Glass's seventy-fifth birthday, Film Independent at LACMA is screening two films from the composer's ongoing series of collaborations with filmmaker Godfrey Reggio. Koyaanisqatsi (1982) and Powaqqatsi (1988) both offer awe-inspiring visions of modern life juxtaposed with nature’s sublime immensity. These works deserve to be seen on the big screen, all the better to take in their gargantuan vistas and Glass’s spellbinding scores.

The centerpiece in the Reggio-Glass trilogy, Powaqqatsi focuses on the people and the topography of the developing world.
