Versatile drummer Ralph Penland began his career with Gil Scott-Heron and Freddie Hubbard. His diverse credits include Ahmad Jamal, Sarah Vaughan, Hubert Laws, Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, and Carlos Santana. While continuing to freelance in a super-sideman supporting role, the focus now is to develop his own music through the Penland Polygon. All along, Ralph has been writing, recording, producing, and documenting his own musical journey through a number of acclaimed recordings.
