The Rarámuri, or Tarahumara, once lived in the mountains of Chihuahua and Durango in Mexico. In the winter they withdrew to houses and caves in the deepest canyons, and in the spring they moved to the sierra and celebrated this event and the new farming year with the Teshuinada. This film was made in the Holy Week of 1979 in Munérachi, a town in Batopilas, Chihuahua. The documented ritual is a poignant example of the coming together of pre-Hispanic and Christian worldviews.
