Volunteer docents provide tours of the permanent collections and current exhibitions. Public tours are offered every afternoon the museum is open. The monthly schedule of public tours can be found in the calendar.
School tours, for students in grades 1–12, are scheduled most weekday mornings from October through May, excluding December.
All docents participate in an intensive year of training in art history and touring techniques before they begin leading tours.
Additional information on becoming a docent can be obtained by visiting the Docent Council page, by emailing a request to admissions@lacmadocent.org or by calling 323.857.6119. Applications are due no later than February 22, 2008.
For descriptions of different types of tours offered to the Museum visitor, see Plan Your Visit: Tours.
