Gloria Koenig and Paddy Calistro
A Book Celebration for Adults
Saturday, November 29 | 2:00 pm
Do Albert Frey and Edith Head have anything in common? Stop by with your ideas and meet authors Gloria Koenig and Paddy Calistro.
Gloria Koenig's new book Frey explores the life and work of desert modernist and architect Albert Frey, who came to the United States from his native Switzerland and brought the influence of his mentor, Le Courbusier, with him. Frey completed his most substantial work in Palm Springs and was the founder of the desert modernism style. Koenig is an architectural historian and author. She will also sign Iconic L.A.: Stories of L.A.'s Most Memorable Buildings, and Eames: Pioneers of Mid-Century Modernism. The monograph about her late husband, the modernist architect Pierre Koenig, will also be available.
Paddy Calistro, co-author of Edith Head's Hollywood: The 25th Anniversary Edition, is an expert on the world's most famous costume designer. This autobiography, released posthumously, takes readers through six decades of Hollywood fashion, when Edith Head dressed the screen's best—Dietrich, Lombard, Swanson, the Hepburns (both Audrey and Kate), Hope, and Crosby, to name only a few. The new edition features an expanded photo section that showcases Head's best work. Calistro is a former staff writer and columnist for the Los Angeles Times and is now publisher and editor in chief of Angel City Press.

City of Angels: In and Around Los Angeles
A Book Celebration for Kids
Sunday, December 7 | 12:30 pm
We had so much fun in September that we had to invite authors Julie Jaskol and Brian Lewis and illustrator Elisa Kleven back to LACMA. They will talk about how they were inspired by Los Angeles and will read from the new edition of City of Angels. This beautifully illustrated children's book celebrates the grandeur and history of our city and features twenty sites of interest including LACMA, the La Brea Tar Pits, Little Tokyo, Mariachi Plaza, and Watts Towers. A book signing will follow the discussion.
