Founded in 1963, the Modern and Contemporary Art Council is the longest-running support group for contemporary art at any museum in the country. With nearly 800 works of art purchased in part or in full by the MCAC, including important works by Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, and Chris Burden, LACMA's contemporary art holdings reflect the critical role the council's patronage plays as a cornerstone of collection development. Council activities include curator-led museum walkthroughs, exclusive day trips to art venues in the community, intimate conversations with artists, and special access to private collections. Benefactor-level members also receive priority access to the MCAC's travel packages to contemporary art destinations both domestic and international, and the option to participate in an exclusive acquisitions group.
