Renoir in the 20th Century Tour with J. Patrice Marandel
Thursday, February 18 | 7 pm
BCAM Level 2
Renoir in the 20th Century focuses on the last three decades of Renoir’s career, when, following his rupture with impressionism, he turned to an art that was decorative, classical, and informed by a highly personal interpretation of the Great Tradition. This exhibition is the first monographic study dedicated to Renoir since the comprehensive retrospective of 1985 at the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais in Paris, and the first one ever mounted by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Offering an unprecedented look at Renoir through the lens of modernism, the exhibition bridges the divide that exists in many people’s minds between art of the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries.
J. Patrice Marandel, Robert H. Ahmanson Chief Curator of European Art, will guide guests through Renoir in the 20th Century, providing insight on the artist's often misunderstood works.
Free. Muse members and one guest are welcome. Additional guest tickets will be available at the door for $10 each. To RSVP, send an email with “Renoir Tour” in the subject line to musersvp@lacma.org. Please include your email address and the number in your party in the body of the email. Space is limited and will be granted on a first come, first served basis. Please note: Muse members do not need to use their two alloted tickets to the exhibition in order to attend the tour.

To begin our year-long initiative of partnering with communities across Los Angeles, Muse is collaborating with Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects in their brand new space for a night of art, artist lectures, and live entertainment in Culver City. The inaugural exhibition featured in this space offers both a solo show of Rodney McMillian and group show including local artists such as Ruben Ochoa, Andrea Bowers, and Edgar Arceneaux. The night will start off at 7pm with an after-hours viewing of the exhibition. There will be a complimentary beer/wine/soju bar and the Komodo truck will be selling their dangerously good food on-site, including the launch of their new burrito—The Muse. The Muse will be sold wherever Komodo goes and, with its every purchase, a donation will be made to LACMA Muse.

Join Muse for Young Directors Night, an event highlighting the emerging talent of Los Angeles’s film community. A celebration of film and the art of cinema, the showcase features eight to ten short films screened in the unique setting of an art museum. The event is not only designed for film exhibition but also is meant to create an educational experience highlighting the intricacies and complexities of the filmmaking process. A host panel of industry luminaries is assembled to engage the directors after the screenings in a discussion on what goes into making the films.
The exhibition doubles as a competition with the host panel and audience voting on best in show. The winner, announced at a reception following the screening, takes home the Art of Film Award and is sent to a prominent film festival to gain further knowledge about their medium.
