Art Councils
Art Councils at LACMA
LACMA's ten Art Councils have been essential to establishing the museum's reputation as a world-class arts institution. Over the course of the museum's short history, these councils—each supporting a specific area of the collection—have acquired or helped acquire nearly 5,000 works of art for the museum, including some of its most iconic masterpieces. It is the museum's collection which attracts international visitors and local audiences alike.
Each of LACMA's Art Councils provides a place of camaraderie for like-minded peers with whom to share experiences and a pursuit of connoisseurship. These essential museum patrons donate their time, services, and financial resources toward acquisitions and programming that benefit the museum and the community which it serves. Through exclusive members-only events, the councils also become an educational resource, as council members gain privileged access to LACMA's curators through conversations with renowned artists and scholars, behind-the-scenes tours of the museum, visits to galleries and collectors' homes, and intimate guided tours of cultural destinations in the United States and around the world.
