Evenings for Educators

Evenings for Educators is a professional development program that presents K-12 teachers with opportunities to look, learn, create, and connect with colleagues. Focusing on LACMA's collection and special exhibitions, programs present strategies to incorporate the visual arts into the classroom with activities that explore the artistic process, approach works of art as primary sources, and emphasize parallels between the visual arts and core content areas.

Educators attend lectures by a museum curator or scholar as well as participate in gallery tours, discussions, and artist-led workshops. Teachers also receive curriculum materials containing thematic essays, art images, discussion questions, lesson plans, and related resources. All programs are interdisciplinary and are developed to meet the California state content standards.

Programs are held on selected Tuesdays from 4:30–8:30 pm.

Art+Film Teacher Institute

Collaborate with colleagues from your school at LACMA this summer to create a short film while learning strategies for integrating the visual arts into core curricula! Over the course of this 3-day professional development program, filmmakers, teaching artists, and museum educators will guide you and your colleagues through the process of writing, filming, editing, and screening your own short film.

The Art+Film Teacher Institute introduces teachers to arts-integration methods that promote student development of tech and media literacy, primary source analysis, and skills associated with project-based learning (PBL). Program activities and materials address California Visual and Performing Arts Standards (VAPA), the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts & Literacy, and the LAUSD Media Arts Standards.

This summer the Art+Film Teacher Institute takes place August 8–10. Principals, coordinators, and teacher liaisons from K–12 schools in Los Angeles County are encouraged to apply by Friday, June 29. Due to capacity limitations, we are only able to accept applications from teams of 4, 5, or 6 teachers.

Participating teachers are eligible for one LAUSD Salary Point Credit upon completion of an additional assignment. Course number: NA-01-131.
