Children's art classes emphasize creative problem-solving and experimentation with a variety of media. In addition to art-making, classes include gallery activities and the viewing of original works of art from the museum's permanent collection or special exhibitions.
Children Ages 3 1/2 to 5 and Their Family Members
These sessions offer very young children and their parents a variety of experiences, including storytelling, observation activities, and art-making workshops.
Art and the Five Senses

Explore the galleries and discover how our five senses connect us to art. In the studio, create your own art using paint, clay, oil pastels, and other materials. With artist Peggy Hasegawa.

Family Portraits
Five Saturdays, April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15 | 11 am–12:30 pm
Young artists will explore LACMA's permanent collection for inspiration of ancient and modern family portraits. Work with artist Quan Yen Trang to create your own family portraits using a variety of media such as paint, ink, and clay to share with future generations.

Art, Me & All that I See!
Five Saturdays, May 22, June 5, 12, 19, 26 | 11 am–12:30 pm
Join teaching artist Lisa Diane Wedgeworth in an exploration in and around the museum. Consider everyday objects as art or where artists get their ideas as you develop art observation skills in gallery activities. Move into the studio to learn art-making techniques while exploring the creative process.

Learn the art of printmaking! Create your own prints while exploring the world of German expressionists with artist Rogelio Acevedo.

Explore traditional art media and apply them in untraditional ways. Learn, with artist Anna Marie Francesco, how to use painting, drawing, and sculpting techniques to create unique works of art.

Exploring Mixed Media

Explore modern and contemporary art. Create mixed-media works combining collage, painting, and sketching. Experiment with form and varied textures to create one-of-a-kind expressions with artist Larry Ashton.

Intergenerational Classes for Students Ages 5 to 105
Perfect for families or adults on their own, intergenerational classes present to students of nearly all ages the opportunity to learn about art and make art at the museum together.
Mixed Media Printmaking

Explore art from different cultures to find inspiration for your own works. Students will enjoy altering a series of relief prints with a variety of materials with artist Heather Conyers.

One-Day Workshop: American Stories
April 17 | 9–11 am
Join educator and chef Maite Gomez-Rejon in discovering daily life in the U.S. from the American Revolution to World War I in a private tour of the special exhibition American Stories: Paintings of Everyday Life, 1765–1915. Then become a Hudson River painter while sipping a cup of sweet and creamy tea—just like it was served in colonial America.

Art: Experience it!
Five Saturdays, April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15| 2–4 pm
In this playful art adventure with artist Elonda Billera, explore the work of South African artist Robin Rhode as well as the museum’s permanent collection. Through performance, drawing, sculpture, and photographs, you and your family will create art as you experience it.
