Art Rental & Sales Gallery Winter Exhibition
Friday, January 8 | 6:30–8:30 pm
This group exhibition features three California artists whose use of different media reflects their unique artistic process. Refreshments will be served.
Photographer Sara Abbott’s work is about taking public space and translating it into a more intimate and captured moment. In Abbott’s own words, when she works through her camera, she looks for “undiscovered beauty that is just within reach.”
Ching Ching Cheng works in mixed media that include ink, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic. Her work is both symbolic and conceptual; psychology and nature provide a springboard for much of her inspiration.
Christiana Pierson uses various combinations of found and created objects and images in the forms of video and photographs that create experiences in the viewer that are both familiar and foreign. She likens her style to that of using a giant spyglass and states, “My work magnifies the mundane to reveal hidden abstractions and fantastical worlds.”
Artworks are available to LACMA members for rental, and for sale to members and the general public. The gallery is managed by members of the Art Museum Council, a volunteer support group. Funds raised by the council support acquisitions and exhibitions at LACMA.
The show will run through March 11, 2010, during regular museum hours. Rentals and purchases can be made through the Art Rental and Sales Gallery at the show or during office hours, Tuesday and Thursday–Saturday, 11 am–4 pm. Los Angeles Art Show Opening Night Gala
Wednesday, January 20 | 7–10 pm

More than 110 prominent international galleries will be participating in the 2010 L.A. Art Show, and the opening night gala promises to attract international art connoisseurs, prominent art figures, and celebrities. Patrons will be invited to a special preview one hour prior to the gala. A portion of the proceeds will benefit LACMA’s Art Museum Council and Prints and Drawings Council.
A special VIP and Patron reception will begin at 6 pm. The Gala will begin at 7 pm. All tickets include a show catalogue and admission to the show for the weekend. Guests will enjoy live music, food, and wine throughout the evening. $225 General Admission; $500-$10,000 Patron Tickets.
