Using oral histories gathered at the LACMA9 Art+Film Lab as a departure point, artist Nicole Miller is working with community members along the LACMA9 route to create nine new video works, one representing each LACMA9 site, as part of a series titled Believing is Seeing. Miller's work comprises video portraits that provide a distinctive and intimate glimpse into lives of Southern California residents. Miller’s project mines what she calls “stories that residents feel deserve to be told” about their lives and communities. “I believe that the stories individuals choose to present are a great signifier of the values of a community,” she says.
LACMA9 community residents can view Miller's collaborative video project at the museum on special LACMA9 community free days.
