What is LACMA?
Located on the Pacific Rim, LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States, with a collection of more than 142,000 objects that illuminate 6,000 years of artistic expression across the globe. Committed to showcasing a multitude of art histories, LACMA exhibits and interprets works of art from new and unexpected points of view that are informed by the region’s rich cultural heritage and diverse population. LACMA’s spirit of experimentation is reflected in its work with artists, technologists, and thought leaders as well as in its regional, national, and global partnerships to share collections and programs, create pioneering initiatives, and engage new audiences.

LACMA is preparing for the construction of our new building for the permanent collection—the David Geffen Galleries. Opening in 2024, the building will breathe new life into thousands of years of art history.

While the original permanent collection galleries are closed, art from the museum’s collection will continue to be on view in exhibitions in BCAM and the Resnick Pavilion. Urban Light and Levitated Mass will continue to be open to visitors.

PARKING

Visitors may park in the Pritzker Parking Garage located on 6th Street, just east of Fairfax Avenue, or in the lot at Spaulding Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard. Parking costs $16 for cars entering before 7 pm and $8 for cars entering after 7 pm. Metered street parking is also available. Please read signs carefully, as parking on Wilshire Boulevard and in the neighborhoods surrounding LACMA is heavily restricted, and cars are ticketed and towed during certain hours.

Will construction affect getting to LACMA and parking?
The subway is coming to LACMA! As part of the Purple Line Extension, Metro has expanded its work on the Wilshire/Fairfax station. Please expect reduced lanes and left-turn restrictions along Wilshire Boulevard in front of the museum.
