Brit. /kənˈspʌɪə/, U.S. /kənˈspaɪ(ə)r/ Frequency (in current use): Etymology: < French conspire-r (15th cent. in Littré) (= Provençal cospirar, Spanish conspirar, Italian conspirare), <Latin conspīrāre lit. ‘to breathe together,’ whence, ‘to accord, harmonize, agree, combine or unite in a purpose, plot mischief together secretly.’
