Academy Award®-Contender Series: A Fox Under A Pink Moon and Post-Screening Conversation

LACMA members are invited to join FILM at LACMA for a special screening of A Fox Under A Pink Moon, followed by a conversation with co-directors Mehrdad Oskouei and Soraya Akhlaghi.

At just 16, Afghan sculptor and illustrator Soraya is a strong-willed artist desperately trying to find her way out of Iran to join her mother in Austria. Over five years, Soraya documents her life—including chilling escape attempts, moments with her violent husband, and political news from Afghanistan—entirely on her phone. Interwoven with this self-shot footage are mesmerizing scenes of her stunning drawings and surreal sculptures made from materials found along her routes. For Soraya, art is a vital survival mechanism: she pours all her worries, joys, and fears into the recurring figures of a loyal fox, a pink moon, and a clown who never laughs, determined to shape a future beyond her harsh present.
