Message from the Director

From the very beginning, the commitment and generosity of LACMA members have made the museum a welcoming and inspirational place for millions of visitors. As we all adapt to a changing world, making art accessible to the widest possible audience is especially important.  We’re hard at work creating exhibitions that celebrate artistic traditions from all across the globe, timely public programming, and much-needed education programs for schools and families. LACMA members are critical partners in making all of this possible—we invite you to join the LACMA family as we look forward to the museum’s bright future.

Special Tours and Lectures

Art 101 Lectures

Deepen your understanding of an exhibition by taking part in a lecture led by a LACMA curator or educator. Explore the themes, context, inspiration, and curatorial process behind the exhibition and take part in a Q&A session at the end of the presentation. After the lecture, revisit the work presented in the show with a new clarity.

Docent Tours

LACMA’s Docent Council is a team of highly skilled and rigorously trained art enthusiasts who offer a wide selection of public tours. Twice a year, members at the Supporter level and above are invited to join a LACMA docent for an exclusive members-only walkthrough of an exhibition where notable works are highlighted, the artist’s life and approach are discussed, and conversation is encouraged. Virtual docent tours will be announced soon!

Curator Tours

Twice a year, Partner-level members are invited to take an intimate tour of an exhibition with the curator. On these tours, curators discuss their research process, highlight specific works that speak to the theme of the exhibition, and take questions.

Art 101 Lectures @ LACMA – Rufino Tamayo

Spanning over 60 years of Rufino Tamayo’s prolific career, Rufino Tamayo: Innovation and Experimentation focuses on his longstanding interest in prints as a means of exploring new techniques and furthering experimentation. Curator Rachel Kaplan highlights the artist’s engagement with printmaking and a selection of Mesoamerican sculpture from LACMA’s collection, an important source of inspiration for Tamayo. Access to additional lectures in the Art 101 series is available exclusively to LACMA members.
