Educator Speaker Series: Care and Activism in Contemporary Art

Hear from Los Angeles teacher Jess Perry-Martin at a workshop that connects contemporary artists in LACMA’s permanent collection with students’ lived experiences. Through a social justice lens, explore how Kalle Arte Collective, Patrick Martinez, Sheila de Bretteville, and Yreina D. Cervantes engage communities through care and activism.
Jess Perry-Martin is a Visual Arts Educator from Los Angeles, California. She teaches at ArTES Magnet in San Fernando, lectures at CSUN, and mentors. She is an AP Reader, Exam Development Committee Member, and Art21 Educator. She studied painting at UCSC and Education at CSUN, holds a master's in Arts Education from Boston University, and has National Board Certification. She is passionate about arts education, advocacy, and equity for Title I students, and bringing contemporary art into the classroom. Outside of teaching, she’s a proud soccer mom, artist, and a lifetime learner.
