Celebrate L.A.'s finest jazz musicians with Jazz at LACMA, presented Friday evenings from May through October. This week, join us for a concert with Melissa Morgan.
A semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk jazz vocal competition, Melissa Morgan has gone on to record a number of acclaimed CDs, featuring pianist Gerald Clayton, bassist Joe Sanders, drummer Kevin Kanner, and trumpeter Christian Scott. Downbeat magazine included her on their 2009 Rising Star List and JazzTimes has named her "audacious and decidedly salty." Her second album Days Like This again features her dear friends Gerald Clayton, Kevin Kanner, Graham Dechter, and Gilbert Castellanos. Currently, Morgan is touring, teaching masterclasses, and working on a compilation of music that moves as a soundtrack and writing vignettes to accompany this musical story.
