Celebrate L.A.'s finest jazz musicians with Jazz at LACMA, presented Friday evenings from May through October. This week, join us for a concert with Hiroshima, presented in conjunction The Brockman Gallery: Los Angeles, 1967–1990.
Vibrant, eclectic and truly original, the 2010 Grammy-nominated group Hiroshima creates a musical world all its own. The celebrated ensemble features the luscious sound of June Kuramoto’s koto, and the interwoven fabrics of jazz, Japan, salsa, and more. In the more than three decades since they first convened, the Los Angeles–based ensemble of Dan Kuramoto (keyboard, woodwind, composer, producer), virtuoso June Kuramoto (koto, composer), Kimo Cornwell (piano, keyboard, composer), Danny Yamamoto (drums, percussion), and Dean Cortez (bass) have blended jazz, pop, and rock with traditional Japanese folk music and instruments. The resulting sound is a pioneering voice of the contemporary world music movement of the late 20th century.
