Landmark Gift of Digital Art Shapes the Future of Art and Technology at LACMA
(Los Angeles, CA–October 22, 2026) The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) announced today a landmark gift of historical and contemporary digital art. Expanding on the museum’s decades-long exploration of art and technology, this gift will allow LACMA to recontextualize digital art in the canon of art history. Ranging from the mid-20th century to the present day, this gift represents a diverse range of media and global art practices, including pre-internet era artworks of the mid-20th century and recent examples of works made with artificial intelligence.
Members of LACMA's Digital Leaders (LDL) and other key figures in the digital community have offered LACMA more than 200 works of digital art from their personal collections over the next several years, adding to LACMA’s existing efforts to expand this area of the collection.
