NexGenLA Celebration: Family Fun with Kahlo, Lichtenstein, Pissarro, and More!

At this free, fun-filled day for NexGenLA members and their families, we'll celebrate iconic works from LACMA's permanent collection on view in the Modern Art Galleries. Enjoy a variety of inspired activities and experiences across the museum campus, including hands-on art workshops, dynamic dance sessions, story time read-alouds, face painting, and family-friendly tours. There’s something for everyone, and all outdoor activities are free to attend, so step into a world of imagination and creativity at LACMA!

NexGenLA is a free youth membership for kids and teens 17 and under who live in L.A. County. Sign up to become a NexGenLA member and you can visit the museum for free anytime and bring a guest for free admission.

On the Smidt Welcome Plaza:

10 am–2 pm

• Andell Family Sundays Art Workshops 
  Greetings From Wonderland: explore colorful landscapes by David Hockney and Camille Pissarro and design your own vibrant postcard inspired by your favorite place—real or imagined.
  Dot Dot Dot and Other Marks: create your own playful artwork with dots, lines, and shapes, inspired by the colorful patterns of Yayoi Kusama, Roy Lichtenstein, and Wassily Kandinsky.
  Still Life, Still Fun: inspired by still life paintings by Frida Kahlo, Jacob Lawrence, and Max Beckmann, make an artwork that tells your story.
• Meet and Greet 
  Learn about LA Metro’s GoPass and Metro D Line Subway.
• Art Object Show & Tell: Form and Figure 
  Join LACMA’s Mobile Programs team to explore ancient artworks and their connection to modern sculpture.
• Art-Inspired Face Paint by Styles by Jean, Papel Picado Catrina, and Arte Jimenez Studio

• Sabor Session with CONTRA-TIEMPO Activist Dance Theater
  CONTRA-TIEMPO’s Sabor (Spanish for “flavor”) Session will get you moving with Afro-Latin social dances rooted in joy and community connection.

11:30 am & 1:30 pm

• Docent-Led Family Tours*
  Join a LACMA docent for a 30-minute family tour of highlights from our Modern Art Galleries and outdoor sculptures. Tours meet at the NexGenLA table.

In BCAM, Level 1:

• Story Time: Artful Tales* 
  Join us for a read-aloud story time with books inspired by LACMA’s Modern Art Galleries! Recommended for children up to 7 years old, but babies are always welcome.

*Free with museum admission. All outdoor activities are free to attend without museum admission.
