Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" Match (1986 World Cup)
Match: Argentina vs. England (Quarter-final)
Date: June 22, 1986
“A little with the head of Maradona, and a little with the hand of God.”
Diego Maradona’s enigmatic explanation about his infamous opener in Argentina’s 1986 FIFA World Cup Mexico™ quarter-final clash with England holds a place in football history alongside the goal itself and his mesmeric second, which followed just four minutes later. The meeting at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on June 22, 1986, will forever be remembered for Maradona’s moment of gamesmanship and then the flash of pure genius which provided a snapshot into the career and life of one of the greatest players of all time in under 300 seconds.
