In 2018, LACMA and the Autry announced an unprecedented new partnership that allows both museums to expand their programming content through the sharing of collections, joint programs, exhibitions, publications, and more. Via this new model, LACMA and the Autry can now extensively explore the art of the American West, as well as the artistic and cultural connections between the American Southwest, Mexico, and Latin America.

In 2018, LACMA and the Arizona State University launched a partnership of exchange and collaborative research. The first initiative to come of the partnership is a Masters Fellowship in Art History, which aims to accelerate the careers of a new generation of museum professionals by combining academic training and work experience. Collaborations around exhibitions, collection sharing, and other research and training opportunities are expected in the coming years.
