Diana Thater sought to develop a new body of work that was focused on bio-inspired and bio-mimetic robots. Working in video, she initially investigated how these machines adapt the neurophysiology and behavior of their animal models. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Thater's project ultimately pivoted to embrace the common experience of isolation. Eschewing biomimetics, this new work was inspired by a Bertolt Brecht poem and a whale who sings at a frequency seemingly incomprehensible to his peers. The work is titled Yes, there will be singing.
