Dancing Light: Figure Drawing Workshop Inspired by Impressionism and Ballet

Step into the world of Impressionist movement, light, and shadow through the lens of ballet. This two hour workshop for adults will be led by teaching artist Shannon Green explores how artists like Degas captured rhythm, grace, and fleeting motion on canvas by inviting visitors to sketch ballet dancer Ishaun Jackson-Moaney in the gallery. Materials will be provided.
Shannon Green (he/him) is an illustrator, painter, and color designer who loves teaching art to both children and adults. He is the founder of The Cool School Los Angeles and has been a teaching artist at LACMA since 2004. Shannon’s experience teaching includes residencies at various public, private, and charter schools, and as faculty at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Ishaun Jackson-Moaney (she/her)(Baltimore, MD) is an artist who moves through the worlds of dance, fashion, and music. Raised in Los Angeles, she began her training at the Lula Washington Dance Theatre and Align Ballet Method while attending the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She earned scholarships to study at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet training programs.
Ishaun has guested with Dance Theatre of Harlem in Geoffrey Holder’s Dougla for their Vision Gala at New York City Center and performed Mauro Bigonzetti’s Festa Barroca at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s New York City Center Opening Night Gala. She also performed in Laurie Sefton’s How We Wear Our Art, an immersive performance bringing together dance, music, film, fashion, and visual art at L.A. Dance Project. Her on-screen performances are featured throughout Natalie Bergman’s short music films Gunslinger and Dance, and she was the opening model for Sophie Isabella’s 2025 fashion show Ephemeral Garden.
Full refunds will only be granted if the art class is canceled by LACMA. Please notify us immediately if a student is unable to attend so that another student on our waiting list can attend class. A refund equal to half of tuition paid will be granted for cancellations made three weeks before class start date. No refunds for cancellations made less than three weeks prior to class start date.
